Starting in 1991, I served as a youth minister for about seven years. During this time, I learned to truly embrace the family as a core unit. My focus was on helping teenagers and their parents become a cohesive unit, emphasizing the value of mutual respect and appreciation.
I recognized the crucial need for teenagers to have support from an adult who genuinely believes in them and reinforces family values. Additionally, I saw the importance of being part of a larger community, which plays a significant role in a teenager's development and sense of belonging.
By 2019, our community had flourished, attracting individuals from all walks of life who shared a common desire for inner transformation. We expanded our offerings, hosting regular prayer sessions, meditation retreats, and engaging workshops led by esteemed monks and spiritual teachers. Together, we delved deeper into the teachings of compassion, mindfulness, and the interconnectedness of all beings.
In 2005, I earned my master's in Addiction Studies from Hazelden Betty Ford. I then continued my work in the correctional system, working with juveniles and adults in both men's and women's prisons. This period deepened my appreciation for the diverse clientele and reinforced my belief in the potential for reform and fresh starts.
I utilized motivational interviewing and helped clients connect to their higher selves without dogma. I also became skilled in group therapy, recognizing the collective knowledge within the group and valuing clients' voices, which brought empowerment and joy to their journeys. This skill has become an integral part of my individual practice as well.
In 2016, I earned a master's certificate from Adler Graduate School, expanding my focus from substance abuse to a broader mental health perspective. This foundation helped me understand that negative thinking can become an addiction, keeping individuals stuck in harmful patterns. I've learned that in their darkest moments, people are often closer to their best selves than they realize.
By emphasizing self-awareness, self-compassion, and overcoming fear, I help clients move beyond merely identifying with their mental health challenges and guide them to connect with their highest selves, rooted in self-love.
Through individual and group therapy, I encourage clients to commit to change, live by high values, and achieve harmony between their heart and mind, positively impacting their relationships and society. My consistent approach across various backgrounds has made me adept at helping people become unstuck.
